Abstract

Aim: The main purpose of this study was to determine relationship between morphological structure and cardiopulmonary function in obese women. For this reason, we assessed whether a relationship between fat distribution and circumference and diameter measurements and cardiopulmonary fitness in obese women.
Methods: 63 obese women (Age: 37.96±2.25 years, height: 158.99±5.76 cm, body weight: 83.65±11.24 kg, body mass index: 33.11±4.31 kg/m²) were voluntarily participated in this study. The spirometer test, gas analysis and anthropometric measurements performed in obese women. SPSS 11.5 statistic packet program was used for data analysis. All of variables were expressed as mean and standard deviation. The relationship between anthropometric measurements with spirometer test and gas analysis was calculated with Pearson correlation coefficients.
Results: The findings showed that there was low and moderate significant relationship between some anthropometric variables. These are:
a) forced vital capacity and sitting height,
b) maximal voluntary ventilation and subscapular skinfold,
c) maximal oxygen uptake and body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference, chest circumference, fat mass, subscapular skinfold, abdomen skinfold, triceps skinfold, suprailiac skinfold, biceps skinfold,
d) lactate threshold and fat mass, hip circumference.
Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that there were relationship between some anthropometric parameters and cardiopulmonary function parameters in obese women. Especially, some anthropometric parameters reflect more the results of gas analysis than the results of spirometric test.

Key words:

obesity, anthropometric, measurement, maximal oxygen uptake, pulmonary function test
