Abstract

This study objective was to investigate the efficiency of the electrical stimulation (ES) applied to antagonists muscle in upper extremity in addition to standard rehabilitation in children with cerebral palsy, and if ES decrease the spasticity and/or increases muscle strength more effectively than standard rehabilitation. ES combined with kinetic therapy is more effective than kinetic therapy for spastic limbs of children with cerebral palsy. Evidence suggests that the ES treatment on extensor muscles of affected wrist and elbow improves the spasticity, possibly through decreased co-activation of the flexors.
